Sadly, after 40 years, Mecklenburg Furniture at 520 Providence Road is closing its doors. The 40,000-plus-square-foot showroom (six floors of everything from dining room sets and bedroom suites to chaises and handspun rugs) is offering a huge sale on everything in its inventory and on the floor. Today, I priced out a Howard Miller bar/hutch, originally $2,958. The new, reduced price is $1,738 plus tax. And if you know the quality of a Howard Miller piece, you also know this is a steal. The doors will remain open, one employee says, until everything is sold. But with the way it was packed with interior designers and eager customers this afternoon, chances are it won’t be open much longer.

Did you see the big truck billboard driving around town today that says Beya is going out of business? What the hey?? I thought the former Panther guy had it going on!
